Drupal 5.0 is out!

With this exciting new release, I guess everybody will want a Drupal site. With our new service offered here, this has never been easier. Just register an account, then create your new site as you would create an article.

Your new site is online immediately. Just go there, create yourself and admin user and off you go.

Have fun with Drupal and remember - we are still very much in beta. We are happy to hear from you!

Shaky weekend

After moving drupalsite.org to a new server during the weekend, we experienced some problems with the default database version (5.0.24a) on this Ubuntu install. Drupalsite uses some advanced features of MySQL like views and triggers which were not working properly. We have now upgraded MySQL to version 5.0.45 which seems to cut it.

You can read the MySQL release notes to check what was fixed with regard to triggers between these versions. On the other hand, it works now so why bother.

As some of you have already noticed, drupalsite.org has just got PHPTAL as new theme engine, which comes with its own theme. In addition, it is now possible to create your own sub-themes as variations of existing ones. This is implemented by a new content type "Thematous theme". The module that implements this web interface to theme editing is available for download from drupal.org.

This took some time but was worth it:

Drupal sites now have the site owner copied as administrative user. This prevents sites from staying unprotected and removes one step for the new site owners.
New sites now have a theme again. For some reason, for some time now, the blueprint for new sites contained no default theme. This is fixed now.
The views module is now included in new sites giving much more flexibility to site owners.

You no longer have to register an account here to create your own site. Just use your drupal.org account like e.g. ''olav@drupal.org'' to log in, and you can create a new site immediately.
